I’ve got to say, this is really exciting for me, we hung the show last night and it looks AMAZING! It was a real treat to see all my new work up on the walls inside and we even hung a few outside in the amazing gardens that surround the gallery. I think what makes this show so amazing is how fantastic Karen Johnston’s large, shiny, metal sculptures and Tamela Ryatt’s beautiful, serene photographs of succulents and colorful images from her world travels and my rustic metal paintings blend together.

I’ve been cranking out the artwork the past couple of weeks and I haven’t had a chance to spend much time with them or look at them from a distance so I’m really looking forward to being at the gallery this weekend, meeting new people and talking up my art.

These are works in progress, the completed pieces will be displayed at the show this weekend.

Clovis, CA (April 30, 2012) Tamela Ryatt and Karen Johnston of Ryatt Johnston Gallery invite the public to their 3rd annual open house on Saturday & Sunday, May 12th & 13th from 10 am to 4 pm. Location: 22140 Frontier Road, Clovis, CA 93619 (cross street; Auberry Road, 2 miles north of Table Mountain Casino)

 

Join Ryatt, Johnston as they present their photography, sculptures and feature the paintings by Fresno’s newest artist, Bibi Bielat. The open house also showcases a gorgeous succulent garden, walking trails and sitting areas with breathtaking views of Table Mountain and the surrounding foothills.

 

Ryatt and Johnston are excited to introduce Bibi Bielat. Bibi has been painting for 15 years, previously in San Diego, CA and Nashville, TN. This is her debut art show in Fresno, CA. Bibi’s unique, rustic and contemporary paintings are sure to make you take a closer look and examine the properties of her iron, copper and bronze elements used in her medium.

 

While some of her work is epic in scale, Karen Johnston’s sculptures are amazingly airy and always tactile. Machined to bring out the warmth inherent to the coloration of the aluminum, Karen’s work is playful, yet purposed – showcasing the lightness and the strength of the material.

 

Tamela Ryatt will be displaying her newest series of work titled “Succulents.” Most of her work has been photographed on the property with the exception of her varied travels to Costa Rica, Mexico, Peru and India. Tamela has been a professional photographer for more than twenty years and loves to share her passion for photography at Sunnyside High School where she teaches traditional black and white photography to more than 200 students every year.

 

Art for sale ranges in price from $20 to $2500, there is sure to be something for everyone. Visa and Mastercard are accepted.

I needed to have some new cards made since I’ve run out and I wanted to include this one because it’s one of my new favorites. I’ve been experimenting with finishing my paintings with wax, I like the polished look of it however it makes for photographing the paintings difficult. My studio has beautiful daylight balanced light and the shear white curtains makes for a perfect diffuse light but I still had too much glare on the painting. I solved this issue by shooting in extremely low light with a long exposure and voila, problem solved.

I’ve also been shooting timelapse video of my painting process, and the footage looks awesome. I just need to set it to some music and a few little edits and I’ll be ready to post it soon. I think this will be an ongoing thing that I do, who doesn’t love timelapse?!

I wasn’t expecting to have to give a speech but I deeply enjoyed talking about my experience as an artist and living in a work/live loft and being surrounded by a supportive art community. I’m living my dream here, it was rewarding to share my enthusiasm with a group of young entrepreneurs. The students had such great energy, they really care and want to make a difference, their exuberance was contagious and I look forward to following their progress through out the semester.

Today is sunny (not really warm) but I have the door to the studio open and paintings strewn about in various stages of rusting/patina-ing. This one painting is getting a direct shot of sun and while not a desired effect, it is turning white where the sun is hitting it. I guess it’s time to add another layer of paint and close the curtains. I think while the paint is drying I’ll step outside and get myself a healthy dose of vitamin D.

I have 6 small paintings in progress, well, 5 actually, I put the leg of the easel thru one canvas, so that is a repair project. I hope to have them done by tomorrow because I was just invited to host an open house for 40-50 Urban entrepreneurship and marketing students.

I also have 3 large canvases and 3 medium canvases prepped with texture and ready for paint. The nice thing about process art is there is time in between applications for the process to take effect so I am able to have several paintings going at one time. It is a cold, gray day here today so drying times are slower so I’m drinking lots of coffee (thanks to Clay Enos and the best coffee in the world at organiccoffee.com).

I was just about to hit “publish” and I questioned the plural of canvas. I’m good to go, it is indeed canvases. Ok, I think I need to lay off the coffee now.

I’ve been working on a few things here… I’ve had several requests/suggestions to include my photography as part of my artwork. I honestly had never considered it. I like to make pretty photos for myself and share them with my friends on facebook, Flikr or on my AppleTV, so the idea of selling them as prints is foreign to me. Alas, I’ve come around to liking the idea, I will be adding a photo gallery to bibibielat.com with prints for sale by order. This will be an experiment, if it works and people like/buy my photography, that would be marvelous, if not, then no big whoop!

We’ll it’s not really a “launch”, the site is live but I just haven’t told more than a handful of people about it. I suppose that sometime this evening I will spread the word, I will annoy my facebook, tumblr, twitter friends with posts about my new website but they will just have to deal with it. I’m happy with my new little website and I can’t wait to share it. Just a few more little tweaks to the content and it’s launch time!
